A drunk man throwing chairs and tables off a cruise ferry balcony has gone viral for his unruly acts. Littering in open sea water is a serious environmental violation that costed him his livelihood.
The drunken man was identified as 25-year-old Otto Kranni, the manager of a local Finnish construction company called Pimura Oy. Alongside him were fellow construction workers. They were boarded on the MS Baltic Princess, a ferry that was traveling across the Baltic Sea from Turku, Finland to Stockholm, Sweden. The construction crew had been drinking for 12 hours straight and urinated in the ferry’s sauna while messing around at the bar with inappropriate behavior.
Kranni originally posted the video to TikTok, but removed the post when he faced backlash from the community. The 25-year-old was fined $10,000 after the video surfaced the internet, making rounds in discussion websites such as Reddit and Twitter. Tallink Silja, the company that operates the ship, has not yet filed criminal charges. The other construction workers involved were banned from traveling on all Tallink Silja ships for an entire year.
“This is certainly an environmental crime. We are shocked by the incident, especially by the littering of the Baltic Sea. The furniture could have hit someone on the lower decks.”
Marika Nöjd, a Communications Manager at Tallink Silja
The construction company that Kranni managed was now in deep trouble. Finnish locals reported that nobody wants to do business with Pimura Oy anymore. A contractor of the company halted all construction work because of the notoriety behind the incident. “The business looks very difficult at the moment,” Kranni confirmed on the Valavuori Live TV program.
Before apologizing on live television, Kranni made a joke about what he did. “Tomorrow, let’s go to the construction site, and we’ll laugh about things that have been done,” he said. The public certainly did not find Kranni’s statement amusing. He reappeared on the show for a second time, stressing how he learned his lesson and did not mean to “cause such a mess.” He pledged that the company would make a donation towards the protection of the Baltic Sea.
